Here's what's new at CareLeader.org

Dealing with The Resistance (a.k.a. people who ignore your counsel)

He asks for advice. You give it. And it's ignored.

    Now what?

Our friend Brad Hambrick shares three things to consider when deciding how to react to the person who disregards your advice. This is helpful info for you, your small-group leaders, deacons, and other church leaders.

Must-know truths about depression (in pictures)

We put together a packet of infographics and other resources to help you quickly understand the nature of depression from a biblical perspective. The packet also contains helpful questions and worksheets you can use to assess how depressed a person is. Plus, there's a form you can fill out for the counselee to give to his physician. Your comments will help the doctor have a better understanding of the counselee's depression. We think this will be helpful to counselees because they often don't remember what to tell their doctor about their experience. Download the packet here.

This is the first time we've released what we're calling a teaching and counseling packet. So let me know what you think about it and how you envision using it--if at all.

    The name game

Last week we shared the results of the logo design contest for our new curriculum. Again, thanks for your feedback; it was helpful. But based on some of your comments, and some internal discussions our team has been having, (and internal discussions I'm having with myself) ...

I think we have the wrong name for the curriculum.

    Why?

The current title, Friend: Enjoying Exceptional Relationships, doesn't indicate that this new curriculum strengthens churches (and helps pastors) by equipping people to care for their friends. The current title emphasizes only friendship. So, for the past week or so, we've been working on a new title. Here's what we came up with:

In This Together: Better Friends, a Better Church

So what does the name change mean?

    1. I had to explain to my boss why we're restarting (i.e., spending more money on) the design process. Thankfully, he's a kind man.
    2. I'll be asking you to vote on new logo designs again soon.

    We're still making progress

Even though this sets us back a bit on the logo design, I'd rather take the time to get the name right. Plus, we're making progress on other aspects of the curriculum: developing its content and scheduling preinterviews and interviews with the people we'd like to feature in it. More on that later.

That's all for this week!

P.S. Feel free to send me any feedback you have on the new name for the curriculum.
