GriefShare

“It was with some trepidation …”

Friends:

We’ve been wondering if perhaps you are doubting the need to upgrade to the new edition of GriefShare? After all, if the original material is working, why mess with success?

You are not the only person to have those questions. Below is a letter from a GriefShare leader who was concerned about what would happen to GriefShare in the process of the upgrade. Perhaps you can identify with her feelings.

In Christ,

Steve Grissom

Dear fellow facilitators,

After leading GriefShare for many years, I have to admit that it was with some trepidation that my husband and I anticipated the new release of GriefShare. It was already such a good program, what were they going to do with our favorite program? Yes, some of the styles needed updating, but would we like the new content as well?

My husband and I are halfway through reviewing the sessions and our initial reaction is "Wow! It is wonderful and could we say, even better!" We think that Church Initiative took the best of the old GriefShare series, improved upon it and added even more. The familiar subjects are dealt with on a deeper level. Additional topics that often came up in our discussions, such as dealing with the belongings of a loved one, dealing with feelings of guilt, complications with a long illness, suicide, homicide or accidents, are now covered in the videos. We just finished the sessions that included guilt, forgiveness and even forgiving our comforters who mean well, but just don't "get it." It was great!

Also, looking through the workbook, I notice that the discussion questions are much better thought out and appropriate. They will bring the discussion quickly to a deeper level. Since we are so limited in time that is such a help. I'm sure it will be a help to all facilitators!

I feel that I can step out and highly recommend this to any church who is currently considering upgrading. What a blessing to see that great program get even better! Praise the Lord for the many answered prayers lifted for this new series, for the many people who had a part in it and for the lives that the new GriefShare series will touch for Him.

In His Love,

Carolyn
